Thought Prompts
in chronological expected order

Shiro & Penguin were in the Pleasure Town bookshop with Law when he discovered the Sora comics. Penguin also fell very in love with the series, and the pair often search the islands for updates for the both of them when the sub docks. Shiro finds it adorable, but found he prefers another comic series more. Slightly more lighthearted, less fights, more character driven. Said series finishes publishing when Shiro is ~20 and they're very heartbroken about it when it does happen. Penguin takes this chance to try to convert Shiro to Sora again.

Strawhats have a run in w Shiro before they meet Trafalgar Law. He's fused w something that makes a cool at the time, and Luffy makes a comment about 'cool, join my crew' and Shiros like 'sorry im taken :c my boss just aint here atm'.

Several years later on; heart pirates have a run in w a devil fruit user who can see alternate reality and (?) uses it to predict how to best win a fight. gets v frustrated v quickly when dealing w shiro, tho, cause he goes 'fuckin. why do you not exist in any other alternative reality? what is this bullshit?' law has a mini break down several hours later as he realises that this means, in any other universe, shiro wasn't there to help cora and him escape. in the moment however, shiro takes that with a 'huh. i guess that means, in every other alternate timeline, my parents actually succeeded in killing me'. someone (? penguin or shachi maybe) goes '... well. we don't have time to unpack all of *that*' lmfao)

Early Life
Birth Family The baby's birth wasn't a happy one, for anyone involved. A mother who'd thought her biology incompatible with the father's, unwillingly giving birth in a judgemental town, under the watchful and hateful eye of a grandmother who swore her child 'needed to learn the consequences of her actions'. The grandmother didn't know the identity of the father, only that her daughter had slept around and made a mockery out of the arranged marriage she'd set up with a high standing family on the neighbouring island.

Make no mistake, the grandmother had no intention of allowing the mother to keep the child. She had planned to orphan the thing off- but when it appeared- with it's sharp fangs glinting ominously in the moonlight- well. The grandmother slapped the mother as the frustration built within her.

"Now look what you've done," She exclaimed. "I can't even send this- this thing to the orphanage."

There would be no hiding it's heritage, the grandmother knew, carefully drawing the curtains shut to hide the three lives within from the full moon outside. No, this child could not blend in with the others. The only choice remaining... was to kill it.

That first night, their mother and grandmother attempted to leave the baby out in the shed for several nights in a row. If the fridged temperatures of the North Blue winter nights didn't kill him, then the lack of nutrients of his mother's milk clearly would. Neither woman thought much of the child, nor of the soft rustling and banging coming from the shed every now and then. The grandmother shrugged it off, when her daughter pressed but once, and commented that 'perhaps the bears of the forest decided to play with their still crawling food'.

Except.

Except when the younger woman eventually opened the shed, about a week later, the grandmother was gifted with a startling scream. When she appeared to whack some sense into her daughter- such a startling noise, so early in the morning!- she found herself glad they lived far enough from town that no one else heard the ungodly noise.

For in the middle of the barn, underneath the skinned fur of the bear corpse it was eating from, sat the supposedly-dead infant. Half of it's body covered in a fuzz that had been absent at it's birth, it's unnaturally tooth-filled mouth gnawed away at the corpse's remains. Uncomprehending eyes turned towards their relatives, the infant watching blandly as they shredded a piece of the bear's heart with their razor sharp teeth. With horror in her eyes, the grandmother watched as the cursed child raised their bloody palms towards their mother, babbling softly as a normal baby would, even as offal dripped from their open mouth at the action.

Killing this child... would be harder than she had originally anticipated.

From there- well, from the beginning really- the baby's life was nothing more than attempts to rid him of it. Years later, Shiro would laugh at it and reflect on it with humour- because if he didn't, well. There was only pain involved.

Attempting to force starvation resulted in his mother cowering in fear, as a snarling sound she had only ever heard from the bears of the forest erupted from the infant's throat. She cowered in the corner as he, finally, was able to reach the cupboard their winter stores were stored in. His grandmother scolded her daughter for days after that incident, beating her frustration into whatever was within reach.

Bringing several pots and pans down over the child's head had only resulted in needed to replace all of them, as their skull caved every last one in. Poisoning the infant resulted in them vomiting up several meals, but somehow surviving each any every attempt. Fumigating the house had left all three of them living out in the shed for a week, all dry heaving from the affect effects of the gas.

Anything that could be attempted, was. Blood letting, drowning, freezing- heck, stabbing at the child as it rolled around on the floor just resulted in knife marks in the wood, and not much else.

The child... somehow survived it all. He had the devils luck, as his grandmother proclaimed, even as she planned her next attempt with an increasely desperate scrawl.

(There was a list nailed to the back of her door, a horrifying thing. Fifty ways to die, all lined up one after another. Forty crossed out with clear, increasing frustration. A few extra entries were scribbled underneath it, handwriting shrinking and getting messier, as frustrations mounted. The crosses were catching up with the end of the list, still.

There was no fighting fate.

Not that she wasn't prepared to keep trying.)

Dropping the child down the stairs resulted in it hitting it's head on the stairs so hard that the wood cracked beneath it's skull. It watched as it's mother and grandmother tripped over the dent for days, before finally calling a stranger into the house- for the first time since it's birth- to repair the damanged wood. When the carpenter- a man from a few islands away, as their dwindling town lacked one- asked what caused the dent, simple small talk while doing the job, both women laughed nervously and gave no particular answer. Dancing around the topic. Ignoring the shiny, black eyes watching the snow dance outside the window as it lay it's ear against the door- hearing, for the first time in it's life, a male voice.

It was strange, in a way, hearing that voice. All he had heard his entire life- all six months of it- was hatred. Screams, scoldings, spat insults- nothing but negative voices all his life. Yet here, now, sitting chained to his mother's bed by an iron shackle- Shiro heard friendliness. It wasn't kind, but... it didn't need to be. Not to be better. Because, in that moment...

In that moment, they realised what it was like to feel despair.

Oh, he'd felt desperation before. He'd been desperate when that bear appeared, when he snarled at his mother, when he left the clawmarks on the floor beneath him as he attempted to flee the latest trap his relatives had put him in. But despair??? He didn't pull at the shackles, didn't move his bloodied wrists, as he stared up at the window. The sun was hidden behind thick, snowy clouds- but enough light seeped through that the slow fall of snow was easily visible to the child's watering eyes. He could get out of these shackles- he'd done it before, and he'd do it again- but... for the first time in his life, the fight drained out of him.

The low, baritone voice left their insides hollowed out. Their chest empty, eyes drained, as they were slapped full force in the face with the first thing that hurt them in their life.

The possibility of a being that didn't hate them.

They had never heard someone speak so nicely. It made them flinch at the start of every sentence- a small jolting motion that pulsed their otherwise still body as it lay across the harsh, cold wooden floor of their mother's bedroom (not theirs, never theirs, how could it be theirs if they didn't even have a bed-). The gentleness grated against their soul, like someone taking a grater to the skin of an onion.

The layers began to peel before them, the residue of the attack filling their eyes with tears, as this unknown man revealed the full extent of the cruelty of their world.

People weren't supposed to hate. People weren't born to survive hatred.

But it was all Shiro had ever known.

Understanding that hurt.

Understanding that... made it want to die.

When the grandmother and mother found the child in such a state, all the grandmother did was smile.

"It's finally broken." She sighed in relief. "Put it in the forest outside. We can finally be rid of this pest."

When placed outside, it didn't fight the placement. It let itself be place an hours walk from the house, not paying attention to the surroundings as it was placed in the middle of a small clearing by a mother who was colder than the breeze.

"..." It blinked, slowly, when the mother didn't just leave right away.

"... I'm sorry you're like this." Black eyes watched as green ones glared at the ground in frustration. "I wanted to love my first born so badly." A foot stamped down against the snow, frustration coiling her hand into a fist.

It felt nothing.

Not at first.

"I wanted to be with a husband who would like me, if not love me, so that I could have a child of my own. To bring into this world and show mother I can bring something to the table. Something special, something cute- something she'd like..." A pause, and then- "But you...

Lips cracked from the dry winter air curled into a snarl.

"But it had to be you, didn't it?" Green snapped to black, as the mother addressed her child for the first time in it's life. "If it had been any other child but you, it would have been fine. She would have liked you, and then I could have liked you, but instead- instead I got a monster."

"I never even named you, did I?" A laugh, nothing like the kind voice Shiro had heard from downstairs before. "Doesn't matter now, I suppose. You're just like the snow. Outside, cold, useless- a crop killer, a hope killer."

"..." Shiro blinked, slowly, not even a finger twitching at the cruel words.

"You and your stupid pale ass blend in just right out here." The mother shook her head, turning away. "Goodbye. May you melt by the spring, with nothing remaining. May the morning bring death to you both; white snow gone from my life."

It was as the woman left, that Shiro wondered, apathetically, what a name was.

What her name was.

Curiousity coiled in it's gut.

A Home In a way, that was her final blessing- that woman's words.

Oh, she certainly intended them to be a curse. Between the hope for death of Shiro, and the arbitrary naming- it was intended to be a complete removal of the child from existence. But it refused. Because, in that moment, a mind that had started questioning everything asked yet another question- 'who are you?'.

A simple question, at first. One anyone would ask, upon realising they didn't know someone's name.

But... Shiro wasn't simple.

They were a survivor. An unloved child, certainly, but a persistent bastard. With a mind and body that didn't stop, that laughed in the face of defeat. It faced a wall head on and said 'I can jump that'. And, so, the question grew.

Who are you? What is your name? Why did you not love me? Why can you not love yourself? Who made you like this? How many have you hurt like me? How many more will you hurt? How many more will you hurt like me?

Where does this end?

And so- shakily at first, then more steady with each step- it rose to its feet and began to make its way.

Not back to the house. It wouldn't go back there, not now that it knew anything aside from the torture they had inflicted on it. No, it wondered around vaguely until it found a cave. Nothing big, barely larger than itself- but deep enough that, when it wondered it, it found dry ground seperate from the snow outside. This...

This would be better.

Searching around, Shiro found a large rock that he could shift around with a bit of effort. Dragging it over to sit a little ways away from the front of the mouth of the cave, Shiro glanced the set up over before shrugging to himself. With that, he curled up inside the cae and let himself fall asleep.

It wasn't any more rough than any other sleep he'd had before.

Rather than being awoken by every movement of their relatives, Shiro awoke at the shuffling of wildlife around them. The shivers only woke them for a little bit- after the first few times, they found it... less. The cold, that is.

[shiro's body produces more and thicker body hair in colder climates, covering his hands and legs like leg warmers, and chest and neck almost like a mane.

makes way to a new town; gets spotted and kids scream about 'mini yeti'. gets dotted on by an old couple at the edge of town, and [at ~age 5] slowly makes friends with their granddaughter [>1] who has yet to develop anr initial fear of the 'yeti' like the other towns children. her parents are marines who can't give up their duty to care of their daughter. becomes an older sibling figure for ~3 years. at 8 years old, however, disaster strikes.

The marines who would eventually go on to become the traders for the Op-Op fruit eye up the Songbird archipelago [Swallow Island, Magpie Isle, Sparrow Island, Boatbill Bay, and Lark Park]. They decide the abandoned Minion Town on Magpie Isle is ideal for blackmarket trades, but first- there has to be less population surrounding the location. Two towns were 'allowed' to remain on the five islands; Pleasure Town on Sparrow Island due to it's pirate history and lack of military loyalty, and Marinetime on Lark Park, the village that produced the most produce available in the area.

The islands were so poor and sparsely populated that they could have just let them live; the risk was so small to them. The people had next to nothing, and barely made enough to get by at the end of the day. But it was still a risk- and that was more than they were willing to take.

This meant both Shiro's birth family's town- a small farming town called Pretty Polly on Boatbill Bay- and his adoptive family's town- Pattycake on Sparrow Island- were on the chopping block. The two were connected via a sandbank that was crossable in low tide, both together and to Magpie Isle. This made their extermination unavoidable.

Shiro wasn't there when the extermination happened. No, no he just returned one day to a house on fire. A village burning, the smoke he saw in the distance not the end of harvest feast, but the destruction of the only Home he'd known.

It runs home to find it's grandmother already dead, it's grandfather dragging himself and it's sister out with his only working arm, and it's heart b r e a k s.

"Who did this?"

Meeting Law
Minion Island plan: finds law and cora (after eat opop before vergo)
writing:

Shiro finds Law while he's waiting for Cora to return. Approaches him without fear, while coverred in fur from being out in the cold for so many years on the winter sland. Is curious about what Law's doing here, since the townsfolk abandoned the town years ago.

Cora arrives, covered in blood, and makes Law eat the op-op.

Drafted Dialogue/Action:
Shiro:'you can't run, right? but you need to get out of here?'
Cora: 'yes'
Shiro: 'okay. i can get you out. but who knows where to go?'
Law points to cora
Cora: '...me?'
Shiro: 'okay. tell me where you wanna go, in ten seconds or less. the less detailed, the better.'
Cora: 'why?'
Shiro: 'i have memory issues. but to get you out of here, i need to do something that'll make you unconcious for 1 hour min.'
(At this point, Shiro had only ever merged for 10 minutes or less before with a human, no animal has ever battled for control, was guesstimating the hour based on how much fighting parties usually fight him)
Law: 'i don't trust this'
Cora more trusting, but still sus. shiro gets anxious, visibly panicked, verbally processing thoughts
Shiro: 'i can't think of any other solution. [still doesn't say what the solution is] you can't walk. i can't carry you. they're fucking fighting. i can't leave you here.'
Law, suspicious: 'why not'
Shiro: 'because you need help, i can't do that'
Cora, suspicious someone put this random child up to tricking them: 'you don't have to do what others tell you'
Shiro: 'yeah, i fuckin dont (cora squeaks a little at the swear). i want to help you, i can't just leave you, i'd feel bad. but i can't think of any other solution, and we're running out of time, and i (visibly spiralling)-'
Cora: 'okay. we're headed away from here. next island, that direction.'
Law: 'what?! you can't be serious?!'
Cora, same time as shiro: 'we need to get out of here.'
Shiro, nods to himself: 'okay. next island. got it.'
(shiro merges with cora.)
Shiro (+cora fusion): 'okay. okay lets go. do you have all your stuff?'
Law points to himself and shrugs
Shiro (+cora fusion): 'well that's sad. okay. lets go.'
Shiro completely ignores his own shit that's been left on the otherside of the island.

Notes:
(fusion result in shiro carrying 50% of the previous parties body (wounds included); gives him a chance to get injured parties to healers or, later in life, a chance for mentally ill people to analyse their thought patterns/see hope seperate from what their neurology is narrowing their vision to. also results in de-aging of older targets/aging up of younger targets. at current stage, actively fighting targets regain conciousness and can split at 45 minutes, unfighting but unwilling targets regain conciousness and can split at 60 minutes. and, as shiro and cora discover over the next few days, willing targets regain conciousness at 60 minutes, don't split, but can gain access to mental communication with shiro at the 60 minutes, and share memories at 120 minutes. at about a day, they begin to be able to see thoughts the other are actively accessing when thinking/speaking without trying. heterochromia between merger + shiro's eye colour always occurs. at splitting, previous body state is regained. this includes terminal illnesses- shiro can cause life expetence to expand by 50% while merging, and does not gain said illness himself once they are divided again)

When they get to swallow island and the cave, literally dragging each other up and across the slippery icey beach and forest. cora is concious now, but still merged with shiro cause he explained the basics he'd figured out of the mix-mix fruit. it's been, like, three days? [need to map the timeline]
Shiro of Shirocora: 'okay. okay. we should be good here for a bit. i didn't bring my club, but i can still punch someone if they come after us.'
Law: 'what?'
Cora of Shirocora, accessing the shared memory bank as he speaks: 'what do you mean- did you leave all your stuff behind?!'
Law, realising this absolute idiot literally dropped everything they had to help these two strangers: '... you're a fucking idiot.'
Shiro of Shirocora: 'eh. it's not like i had anything much to loose. what's it matter, really?'
Cora of Shirocora, realising he now has two stupidly suicidal sons: 'we will be talking about this later, holy shit.'
Law, realising he now has two idiots permanently stuck to him: 'urgh, now there's two of them'
Shiro of Shirocora, blinking at the pair of them: '... wat.'

(still approach and flee the village? law starts working on himself in the cave, with shiro-cora trying to start a fire to keep them warm. law faints, shiro-cora both panic, with anxiety shared between the pair, when wolf finds them. wolf gains himself a son, and five grandsons instead of four grandsons over the course of Novel Law.)

Swallow Island Helps out with the community care company, doing house visits and study aid for various villagers. Depending on demand with the company, Shiro also helped Rudd out with local duties as well. It ended up interacting with a lot of community members as a result, and listening to their stories and experiences as it helped them out with their homes and lives. This experience added to it's personal experiences in Linea Town, broadening it's perspective to fully include most walks of life.

This did mean that Shiro was aware of the events that happened several years ago, even before Wolf had brought it up with it. Not in precise detail, but in that something happened and Wolf felt responsible and helped the town recover. It found a lot of peace in itself in processing and applying this knowledge, figuring out how to act without applyng knowledge it wasn't supposed to have yet.

Heart Pirate Life
Took up the forename 'Ten' a few weeks after they set sail. Penguin and Shachi were joking around about the theme of the Polar Tang and their names, and Shiro decided to join in the fun with a grin.

Law scowled about it for a week after it happened, whenever it was brought up, but there was a small smile there too whenever Shiro got a side glance at him. And so Shiro persisted and introduced himself to that to outsiders when asked. And when his first bounty poster appeared with 'Ten Shiro'- well, Shiro just grinned and laughed.

Even as his crewmates mocked him about the names being in the wrong order. Shiro didn't care. It was worth it to see the fond smile grow on Law's face, and to see him sneak the poster away to join the crew's first bounty poster pile he was keeping in his room.

(He thought no one knew about the pile. He was wrong. Shiro thought it was adorable.)

(Also, as Shiro later pointed out to the crew, he refused to change his first name. It was the name he first got- it wouldn't make sense to swap them around!)

Puberty and Friends Shiro is acearo spec with high sex drive and no sexual trauma.

Shiro dabbles with sexual discovery with Shachi mostly while ages 16 to 18 [Shiro || Shachi ages 19 to 21], but also with Penguin [20 to 22] and Law [18 to 20] occasionally (both as a group and individually). At 14 Bepo isn't interested in getting involved in that mess, and by 16 Bepo has decided the dynamics are getting too messy for him to want to set paw in.

Shiro nurses a major crush on Law from age 14 upwards, that naturally evolved from their friendship that started when Law was 13 & Shiro was 11.

Shachi had a major crush on Shiro for a bit, but also had a major one on Penguin at the time as well.

Penguin has a major crush on Law and Shachi.

And Law has only a minor one Shiro that sudden hits Major territory in his face ~age 21. Doesn't realise it until he realised how relieved he was when Shiro admits that they and Shachi stopped messing around 'about a year ago or so'.

Shachi and Shiro agreed to stop messing around once Shiro realised how much Shachi liked them, and the fact that they couldn't return those feelings, and Shiro felt like he was hurting Shachi by continuing to offer less than Shachi wanted. Shachi didn't really want it to end, but wanted to respect Shiro's feelings- and, after a few weeks, realised he appreciated being let go actually.

Shachi and Penguin eventually evolve from messing around to relationship status ~ages 22 and 23, which sparks the conversation between Law and Shiro that make's Law's strength of his own feelings hit him in the face like a slap from a cold, dead fish.

Shiro and Law dance around each other for quite a bit after that; neither are prime initiators in things that only benefit themselves (Shiro) or involve feeding their own feelings (Law). Eventually, around a year later [Law 22 | Shiro 20], there's a Heart Pirates celebration and Shiro is in their head a bit too much and decides, actually, drinking more than usual sounds like a fantastic idea- and it all comes to a head.

[unsure of events here.

drunken confession? Law will write it off as no actual feeling potentially; unless Shiro confesses to thinking this way for years. May spur Law into taking initiative later? Prior to retraumatisation of Marineford, so he's more hopeful at that point, but still feels like death surrounds him like a plague, and is still loosely planning Dressrosa everything, but more hopeful than immediate post time skip law?

sleeping together again for the first time in years? shiro would have to wake up before law [maybe it's the first time he's properly slept in a while and so shiro would have the advantage- despite drinking heavily the night before.] and then decide now is as good as anytime. potentially law makes a comment about it not having to mean something, or about it being like old times, and then shiro goes 'but what if'.

will figure out later.

also worth noting; mink drinking tolerance. shiros will be higher than the average person's due to mixed heritage.]

Early Relationship Dynamics Their elationship trends well for 2 years, as the pair already know how to work well together, and are aware of each other's mannerisms and habits, as well as some of their kinks. Most of the learning comes from fitting romantic dynamics into there, and fumbling through their preferences there. It's mostly smooth, but not without a few flaws- however seen or unseen they may be.

Law struggles, unseen, to understand that the love he is being given is unconditional. As a result, he make terms for their relationship that he thinks are unspoken but agreed upon, but are really just unspoken. For example, he thinks he doesn't ask about Shiro's life prior to their meeting on Minion Island and Shiro won't ask in turn- the only time they find out about that info is if either speaks up unprompted. The reality is, Shiro won't push for information unless volunteered or important for the present- and he trusts Law to determine what is a 'need to know' about uncomfortable topics. Shiro, however, is all fine with questions. This settles out once Luffy settles into their dynamics, and Law confronts his misconceptions about love and it's conditionality (or lack there of, rather). Once logic isn't the only thing applied to it, in his brain.

Because while Shiro's love is unconditional and emotional in core, Shiro... is still a therapist; a doctor. And he can put emotions into words in a way that makes it all sound rational and logical, even when that's not all there is to it. So while he's good at getting Law to open up, be vulnerable, and realise he loves him back- he's bad at explaining that it's unconditional and freely given with no return expected. That is a lesson only Luffy can drive home.

Shiro completely overlooks this himself- and sometimes, relevantly, forgets that Law can't see the emotions that charge every decision he makes. That Law is smart and logical and driven, but can't see the emotions that tie him to his crew, to Cora, to Shiro- that it's a skill Shiro has that is a specialty. Law and Shiro are on the same wavelength so often, that sometimes Shiro forgets that that they aren't actually always like that. They'll reach the same conclusion, but the paths they took were different- and Shiro forgets to account for the differences because they mesh so well.

That aside, however, the pair come together with very few issues. Both enjoy clear established personal boundaries, and parallel play is a definite love language here. Shiro is less shy with loving words, and is the first to say ' love you'. Law is less shy with physical contact, and is the first to initiate most first actions in their relationship. Both show their love in quality time, but Law also predominantly in acts of service, and Shiro also predominantly in words of affirmation.

Neither likes being crowded in, but both appreciate physical contact solely with the other, just to remember they're not alone.

When round others, Law sees when Shiro is hesitating, or reluctant, where other's can't- because Shiro tends to cater and vibe match so much. But even while doing this, Shiro has moments- of pause, of consideration, of observation- that are more telling than most words that come out of his mouth.

At some point, they discuss having polyamorous potential in their relationship, but decide neither feels romantically for others often. Neither really feels romantically enough for them to consider bringing Penguin or Shachi into their relationship. Ultimately, they fence the discussion with 'neither opposed, but they'd have to Fit and be a romantic interest for both of us'.

[2 years later; Shiro meets Luffy on an off chance on an island, and then Law meets Luffy at Saboady.]

And then Law gets retraumatised by Marineford, and things get testy for a bit.

Meeting Luffy
shiro fused w an animal w a tail sticking out a bush with the folded down back half of their boiler suit, searching for smth in the bushes. maybe birds nests for signs of birds to fuse with?
[oooh, maybe fused with a toy that was left lying around. toy dinosaur? washed up in shipwrecked cargo. anyway- my point is!! robot!! dino!! tail!! super cool, right?]

luffy: -pulls tail to catch meal-
shiro: hey :c that was rude
luffy: ooooh, its a big half-(creature)-half-human thing... hmmm... can i eat you?
shiro: i mean. it might count as cannibalism. not sure. worth a shot maybe?
luffy: shishishi i like you
shiro: tyty lmao. i might have to fight you if you try to eat me tho :c i have things i still wanna get done in this world. and u seem nice :C dunn really wanna fight you
luffy: shishi alright. i won't eat you. hey. do you poop?
(queue strawhats facepalming behind him)
shiro: kikiki. yes. yes i do. do you?
luffy: YES!!! (no one's asked his back before) wanna join my crew?! :D
shiro: naw, sorry :c i'm already on someone elses crew
(someone else): where IS your crew?
shiro: we got seperated ;w; swhy imma trying to find a bird to carry me back
the rest of the strawhats: ... the fuck
luffy: -nods- makes sense. i can help you look!
shiro: thanks :D -queue bonding for a full day or so-

(someone at some point: how'd you get seperated, anyway?
shiro: i don't usually leave the ship when we make land, unless the cap'n needs a second analyst or is expecting a full fledged brawl to break out. so i think they forgot to account for me in the headcount when returning to the ship. since we had to flee the island unexpectedly and all :c
several people, including luffy: -visibly offended on behalf of shiro, who has proved to be very amicable and friendly- rood >:c
shiro: nah, it happens. -waves it off, very clearly not offended-
someone: how come you don't leave the ship often?
shiro: oh, i have like. strong anxiety over several things.
usopp: mood ;w;
shiro: it was just a good day yesterday so :) i left the ship. my mistake haha
luffy: it's never a mistake to explore!!
shiro: true -nodding along-
nami: if you don't mind me saying, you don't seem very anxious right now?
shiro: oh, man, nah. if I stop doing something right now -halts whatever he was doing- my hands start twitching like crazy, see?
robin: -unsurprised by this development, despite her crewmates startling at the spastic, spasming twitches starting at shiros finger tips and slowly climbing up his arms- you are very good at managing your stress, shiro-san.
shiro: -nods in agreement, turning his hands back to the task at hand, as he begins to feel the twitches climbing his neck. immediately, almost all the spasms disappear, those attentive eyes can now see the twitches happening occasionally at his finger tips- well, i wouldn't be good at my job if i couldn't do it to myself too, haha.
someone: and what is your job?
shiro: i'm the crew's therapist :D
luffy: ... what's a... thermo-mist
shiro: i'm -pauses, considering- a mind doctor? i think that's a good way to put it.
robin and chopper: -nod in agreement-
luffy: -cheerfully- shishishi that sounds boring :D
(someone hits him upside the head for being rude. shiro just laughs)
shiro: i mean, it's not for everyone haha. my ships full of different doctors, though, so I fit right it. no one else on the crew does what I do, either, so I'm useful enough. plus, i like helping the others in the way I can, yknow?
luffy: shishishi)

Punk Hazard
law begins to loose himself in his plan, finding the hearts and becoming a warlord and eventually planning to split the crew on his suicide plan. he becomes single minded and paranoid and detached.

shiro finds this stressful, and becomes stressed in turn. however, shiro refuses to give up on law and feels the worse thing he can do at the moment is leave law to his own devices. he begins to balance not crowding law in with refusing to let law think he's alone, carefully. but his focus here means other areas in his life suffer, and he becomes disengaged with non-work and non-law related things, sacrifices his own wellbeing and health for maintaining those two areas, and begins to disassociate more strongly more reguarly.

law begins to cut down initiating physical contact and time together, and begins to negatively respond to words of affirmation. shiro, in response, begins to initiate more contact himself- even if it's a minimal, ankle to ankle contact while law is working and shiro is reading- and doesn't erase his words, but decreases them to a less overbearing amount while he thinks law is concious or listening. law still catches soft 'i love you's when shiro thinks he's asleep, or not paying attention.

when law proposes seperating from the crew for the punk hazard phase, shiro pulls a face that lets everyone know this would become A Discussion behind closed doors.

shiro and law agreed shiro wouldn't push captain decisions publicly when they started dating, and just because law was being stupid from stress didn't mean that was about to change.

the actual Discussion was long, even if level and medium in volume. the conclusion was law folding and letting shiro come along, even if he would have to fend for himself in a constantly fused state for his own safety out in punk hazard until law got what he needed.

law didn't like the outcome of shiro coming along, shiro still knew this plan was suicidal even if neither had said it and didn't like that, but the crew all felt better knowing shiro would be with law, and shiro felt better knowing at least law wouldn't be alone, and law felt very little at this point. his head was being overused, and his heart very little, but there was a relief there. at something. he didn't know what. he dismissed the emotion.

shiro grew out his fur again, those few weeks alone on punk hazard, and fusing with a stray ermine on the way over didn't help. he became aware of the strawhat's presence when they stumbled across his cave with the children and brownbeard, and immediately scuttled up to law happily when he appeared with them- even if law only laid a hand on his head and not much else in the process.

shiro didn't say anything at this point, and none of the strawhats recognised him except luffy, but luffy... nodded at him. almost seemed happy or relieved to see him.

since things were getting a move on, shiro finally spoke to ask law -once he teleported himself, chopper, and shiro away- where he wanted them to wait; startling chopper as a result. law pointed to the SAD ship, and said to find the tunnels that lead into the facility and hide near there. shiro agreed and began making his way.

when the poison began to spread across the land, shiro made the call to move further into the tunnels- finding a point where a crack in the ceiling fought the air currents from outside, creating an aerial seal against the fumes. as an additional precaution, shiro found an inanimate object to fuse with -some rocks, as the case was- to decrease the harm the poison could do to his system. he was in this form when he sensed the cart barrelling towards them, and landed onboard easily enough.

neither law nor shiro commented when the other sighed in relief at seeing them alive.

on board the sunny, both refused to let the other leave their sight. they took shifts napping out on the deck, both bathed together, and spoke up about the other's food preferences when sanji asked- despite being decidedly mum about their own. both spent a fair amount of time bonding with luffy, refusing the leave the other's side while they were asleep, but more content to roam merely in sight when both were awake.

shiro quickly picked up on the fact luffy could be a third for both of them, law much slower and wouldn't realise until after the doffy fight wet, cold fish once more. luffy, of course, also quickly picked up- not only on the pair's relationship, but the fact that he could blend into them quickly and was interested in doing so. shiro, however, felt disinclined to push law into anything at the moment. luffy, however, wasn't about to push law into doing anything at the moment- but he was fully prepared to worm his way into their dynamics.

luffy spent a lot of time with the pair when they were both awake; splayed across both their laps, discussing the most random of shit with shiro who was happy to engage him, and asking random questions of law too, who was happy to explain things even if he wasn't up for a conversation.

Relationship Dynamics
Law & Shiro
  • schemers and analysts - deep thinkers || get lost in their own heads easily
  • introverts who need their alone time
  • active learners and studiers || think before acting
  • masochists
  • not easily swayed from their stance [luffy easily swayed by meat]
  • prone to social paranoia and constantly aware of the image they're presenting

Despite both being high stress individuals when it comes to social balances and sways, and prone to getting lost in their own heads, both find the other to be a calming presence. The entire Heart crew agrees that, despite the odds of dealing with two schemers, dealing with both is better than dealing with one alone. They calm and ground each other; because it's a person they trust, implicitly, to be in their corner and cover their back.

Not big on PDA when it's just themselves, but massive parallel play energy when they're together- both in public and in private. When in private, however, both tend to reach toward the other, to at least have some point of contact between them.

Sexual dynamic is pretty balanced. Both are sadomasochists, though Shiro tends to like things rougher than Law is comfortable with. They switch power, if it comes into play at all, and both like prolonged contact during and post-sex. Shiro has a higher sex drive, but Law is content to use toys actively to keep up. Both are fairly quiet partners, with moans and quiet words being the loudest thing in a typical pairing.

Luffy & Shiro
  • go with the flow - don't mind their plans being thrown in their face [shiro] / not following a plan at all [luffy]
  • optimistic and quick to laugh
  • emotionally compitent and intuitive
  • not easily offended || shiro especially almost never finds a question invasive
  • can't stand silence || often singing or humming if alone [but just the sound of someone else existing is enough]

Luffy brings a lax vibe to both Shiro and Law, but with Shiro it's more outwardly obvious to the unfamiliar viewer- mostly due to Shiro's mimicking habit. Both are quick to laugh, and bring a cheerful vibe to wherever they're hanging out at the time. Both seem to communicate without talking at all, even if they don't always agree, and Shiro- much like everyone else on the planet- lets Luffy get away with almost anything. Luffy needs to pick up on when Shiro isn't up to being dragged out of his room, however, and does so fairly well- there are only so many days where Luffy can turn a fake smile into a real one. Some days just aren't that day.

Luffy initiates most PDA, but Shiro doesn't fight any nonsexual PDA that's brought upon him. Sexual PDA, however, tends to have him too flustered to cope- and he tends to push it away as his brain shuts down. Both are fairly openly, verbally affectionate- though not overly lovey-dovey in nature, both can say the most romantic shit with a straight face... and not necessarily pick up on the fact that everyone else would struggle to get that sentence out of their mouth without a single stutter.

Their sexual dynamic is similar, in that Luffy initiates most things and leads the way. Shiro is content to be lead around, but will guide from areas that he's not comfortable readily. Both have high sexual stamina, and tend to want several rounds per session- and both are perfectly content to just give for the entire session, too. Both have an oral fixation, and their combination tends to lead to rough and fast paced couplings. Noise complaints... are regular when these two meet up. From both Luffy's voice, as well as anything that gets thrown around in the activities.

Law & Luffy
  • restless and fairly reckless || shiro is happy to sit still without a plan, law not without a plan, luffy not at all
  • quick to argue back / don't like being told what to do || Shiro shares the impulse to reject a command, but tends to go along with it unless he has a reason not to. Law and Luff will just fight the command head on unless they have a reason to follow it
  • captains be captains man || decisions making, leading, commanding presences || Shiro isn't for a reason
  • both try to avoid thinking about how their trauma is impacting their actions
  • often on the same wavelength, even if Law tries to fight it

Luffy becomes the sun to Law's moon, as opposed to Shiro who will mirror either of their tempraments. Luffy will bounce around excitedly, dragging Law anywhere and everywhere, while Law scowls and complains- but even he can't deny the soft smile that reaches his lips as he's pulled around. (Okay, so he can. And he does. But no one believes him- least of all himself.) Luffy is good at picking up on when Law actually needs space, as opposed to when he needs quiet times and is happy for Luffy to curl up on his lap and sleep while he reads, even if he's not up to being dragged around.

In terms of PDA, Luffy will cling to Law and shower him in physical affection, and Law flusters like it's nothing else. But he doesn't tend to shy away from kisses in public, and Luffy's found he's great to tempt with sexual attention in public- if only because Luffy gets off on the contact, Law gets off on making everyone around them uncomfortable, and Shiro [if present] tends to become so flustered and worked up that he just falls Silent.

In terms of sexual dynamics, the pair tend to put up a pretense of a struggle for control, but Luffy usually ends up in control- even if Law will deny it if it ever comes into conversation. Law tends to enjoy when Luffy guides his actions, takes the control from his hands, but it tends to be fairly soft despite that. They both tend to intiate the same amount, but where Luffy clings more in PDA, Law clings more during and post-sex- needing reassurance more than Luffy that the other is still there. Taking control from Law, and having him surrounder it, tends to lead to the most satisfaction between the pair- even if the actual level of give and take is equal between them. Luffy has a higher sexual stamina, but stops when Law does or, on occasion, leads the man into overstimulation much to both their pleasure. Noise complaints are less often than Luffy and Shiro, but more common than Law and Shiro.

Law & Luffy & Shiro
  • don't hesitate in the face of adversity and set backs; keep going ahead
  • like to have a struggle to face; gives them a purpose
  • sadists
  • feel emotions Too Much
  • believes evereyone has the right to be free

All three together... is interesting. Shiro appears to be the 'middle' person between Law and Luffy. Reasonable, but optimistic; a thinker, but very socially intuitive. And he is a mediator and a compromiser, the one therapist between two captains who hate being told one to do. But the reality is... all three middle each other well. Law is the medium ground between Luffy's 'act now act fast' and Shiro's 'I need to know everyone's stance on this before I act'. Luffy is the middle ground between Law's 'you tell me what to do I will never do it' and Shiro's 'I will listen to everyone's wants and accomidate them all'.

That said, all three are very similar. Sadists and willing to drag other people around them into their 'arguments' for the joy of watching others squirm to pick a side. All three feel emotions Very Strongly, and their core beliefs are almost identical. And none of them will shy away from confrontation- just. They'll take different routes to get there.

Sexually, the three tend to fall into Luffy leading and Law and Shiro swapping between the middle man position. Shiro and Luffy tend to need to either wear each other out a little at the start, or tail each other off once Law's satisfied- but since, often, doing it after leads to Law being ready to go again after a bit, both prefer that choice. With Law not liking physically rough play, the throuple coupling tends to pull towards extreme emotion play- all three loving the look of tears on their partner's faces in a controlled environment. Noise complaints, as with any activities involving Luffy, are common.

Law
  • Love Language: acts of service & quality time
  • Kinks that cause a mental shutdown: Praise, worship, dropping on one's guard

[additional stuff to be added].

Luffy
  • Love Language: physical touch & quality time
  • Kinks that cause a mental shutdown: oral fixation, seeing either of them passionate af

[additional stuff to be added].

Shiro
  • Love Language: words of affirmation & quality time
  • Kinks that cause a mental shutdown: Blood, exteme mood switches, dacryphilia

Shiro is a bit of a juxtiposition, much like any other person.. He can sit still, but needs to have something happening around him or he gets restless. He won't hestitate in the face of set backs and isn't afraid to state his mind, but he's also perfectly content to sit back and observe things going wrong. The key difference comes down to the fact that he is a survivor, first and foremost. Hestitation kills, but so does lack of information, and suviving is key.

sexuality and exploration - gave Shiro more confidence
Shiro loves easily and freely, but trust comes in a far more fugal dosage. So while he can get along with most people, and could easily fall IN love with most people, the actual amount of people he'd trust to even attempt a relationship are... very few. Additionally, he feels little need to take the initiative in these sort of things; the lack of want to presume others emotions and a want to avoid pushing others boundaries, coupled together with his lack of NEED for a relationship, means he tends to just shrug off his emotions and let them simply. Dry up from lack of water, so to speak.

Crushes that have stayed consistent are few. He tends to overanalyse these feelings, turning them oveer and over in his head until he understands them so clinically that he can talk about them in such a detached way that a listener might wonder if he actually feels any of the emotions he's stating at all. Those close to him, however, know it simply means that it's important enough that he's thought on it nonstop, and for a long time- dedicating his time and energy to understanding what's imporant to him.

Shiro is on the ace-aro spectrums, but with a high sex drive, but very low trust in others- at least when it comes to care of himself. He's had a sexual 'crush' on most of the crew, with emotional understanding leading to sexual attraction for him. However, a romantic 'crush' has been limited to... well, a total of two people. And one of those failed to pass his 'mental' inspection.

Both, however, Shiro was willing to persue sexual exploration with- trusting himself with either. One, however, was almost as unlikely as Shiro to take the initiative in a relationship; Law.

[As it was, the two would remain locked in a song and dance for years. Neither wanting to intitiate anything. Both understanding they had a solid crush on the other. Both experimenting with themselves, figuring out what they liked, only to come to the conclusion that they didn't really WANT to date anyone else but them. Both the point of ire of many of their friend's letters to Cora as a result.

It would come to a head, eventually. Just in time for them to discover their relationship comfort, and boundaries, only for a third to come bursting into their life.

But not for many years.]

The other, however, was open to experimentation- after Shiro took time to make sure they were both on the same level that this wasn't a romantic relationship at all; Shachi.

early life - post first despair scene
[But a voice whispered in his head, quiet at first, then louder at the indifference it faced.

"Fight them. Don't let them win. Prove them wrong. Be better."

"..." Shiro didn't see the point, not really. To whom would he prove it to? There was no one around. This man would leave, and then it would be just him again. Just him and them.

"Prove it to you. To the possibilities. The the people you'll meet when you survive. To the you who has yet to be born."

The voice hissed. It wasn't mean, not like theirs, but it was abrupt. Left no room for arguements. Stubborn.

"..."

"Do it so that one day, you'll look back, and you'll be able to laugh. Laugh at the face of anyone who thinks they can bring you down."

That... that brought a new emotion- one that Shiro didn't know. Couldn't name.

"If your own mother couldn't kill you, what makes anyone else think they could try?"

It filled his chest, slowly rising like a tidal wave to fill the empty void the man's voice had dug out.

"We survived so we could help, and no one can stop us from helping anyone and everyone."

"No one will hurt like us again." A snarl ripped across Shiro's lips, and the voice coiled in contentment. Licking their tongue across his teeth.

Hope was born.

"Never again."

Perseverance was attained.]

meeting law - post-escape pre-cave - isekai background based
(about the second night(?timelinecheck?) on the boat, while law is sleeping and shiro-cora is guiding the boat while awake, shiro's cursing himself out mentally)'i recognise that island, i thought to myself. this should be fine, i thought to myself. what can go wrong, smiley face. fuckin. fuck my memory man. 'of course i recognise that island' [mentally recalling the scene from the anime] fuck my life man.' '(cora, mentally) holy shit. what the fuck.' '(shiro, mentally) ah. fuck my life, squared, i guess.' '(cora) ... no seriously, what the fuck.' '(shiro, with a physical shrug of their shoulders) idk man you might as well go digging at this point. idk how to explain it concisely.' '(cora) listen, kid. are you a kid? anyway; you memory is so holey, i'm not sure navigating it would be any clearer than an explination you could give me.' '(shiro) that's probably fair, lmao. it was easier before, when we were all here. now it's just me; i'm the only one that's been reborn. or, perhaps, i'm all of us? and this brain just wasn't traumatised as much as our one was?' '(cora)... you do know that that makes no sense, right?' '(shiro) or, maybe, our coping mechanisms we developed previously carried over and it meant- no, you're right, that probably is confusing for you too.' (cora nods with the body physically) '(shiro) hmm. well, I suppose the really short, condensed, and simple version is- i remember a past life, in a very different world. in the past, or in an alternate realtity, I don't know; not much point musing, not much I can do about it, yknow?' (cora nods again. shiro can feel the mild overwhelm, but there's no point not telling him at this point; they're sharing a body, he's going to pick up on shit anyway). '(shiro) but this world? was a story in my old world- a comic book, y'know? and a few other things, but the comic was the main thing, but ye. I died, and I was reborn, but my memory was shitty then, and it's shitty now, but ye. as an orphan I got kicked around a lot, and travelled between islands- and the last bunch i caught a ride with dumped me where you guys were, but like. a while before you were there. and i was like 'i recognise this island from... somewhere in the story. idk where. i'll stay here for a bit. maybe i'll be able to figure out Where in the story i am.' and so. i did.' (cora feels overwhelmed now, realising where this is heading) '(shiro) you died there, yknow? and law was alone. he suffered for it. i'm not good with details, they slip me a lot, but that... that was a major story point. i know when i am now, and where.' (cora drops their arm, and shiro can feel tears in their eyes, as cora sees the flashes of the story they remember) '(shiro) sorry. i know it's a lot...' (shiro feels awkward, tries to find what else he has to explain, to change the topic. cora lets him, feelilng and identifying the coping mechanism for what it is) '(shiro) the mix-mix fruit, it suits me, yknow? in my previous life, I had this thing- you know when, like, multiple personalities develop in the one brain? with amnesia and shit?' (cora recognises something of it in the military training, in identifying types of unstable individuals) '(shiro) yeah, that's a trauma result- of a kid who's good enough and dissassociating and derealisation and traumatised enough that the brain just. splits. that's what i had- what we had- before. but now it's just me in my brain. i still have the trauma responses, and the dissassociation, and derealisation, and all the memory problems- but it's just me now. I think. I think it's just that we built enough coping mechanisms, Before, that when this brain took us in, it didn't Need to split to deal with us. It could just... be. because we don't stress it too much now.' (there's a long moment of silence) '(cora) that's... [fucked up, he thinks, and shiro smirks in their brain, but cora doesn't let it sit there]. that's a lot. both parts of it.' '(shiro) yeah... sorry you have to be aware of it. (shiro shrugs mentally) i wasn't aware it'd even be a problem, sharing for this long, you gaining access to all that.' [a half beat, cora about to ask if he would have still done it when-] '(shiro) i'd still have fucking done it, but. idk. maybe i'd unmerge for a millisecond and remerge or smth. idk. it's a lot, i know, i'm sorry.' (cora can feel him shrivelling up in their mind, and he stop him, paps him gentle on the mental head. tapping their physical hand on top of their head) '(cora) don't worry. it's okay. i appreciate what you did for us, for law.' (shiro feels their cheeks heat, as he recalls his memories of law as a character. and love for both cora and law. favourite characters) '(shiro) i'm. i'm just glad i could help. y'know?' '(cora) yeah. yeah i know'. '(law, outloud for the first time since this mental conversation started) what the fuck are you two even doing.' '(both) asdlkjgldsjklgfd'.
